Happy GroundHog Day

harry3aToday is the day that old Punxsutawney Phil checks out to see if his shadow is present or not… and the verdict is… 6 more weeks of winter. I am not sure how people in areas that actually have weather feel about his assessment, but here in Southern California, the verdict is decidedly good. We have had a nice cool winter thus far, but we have had very little rain. We are almost 2 inches below normal for this time of year.

I have always thought that one day in the future that GroundHog day would become a major U.S. holiday. You know… banks and schools closed, a special family meal (we could all have a big salad to honor our vegetarian friends.) and most of all we should have songs about the holiday. Christmas carols are great, and I really love them, but I do think we could use another holiday that includes lots of singing. Just think of the boon to the economy too… people would by GroundHog Day presents for each other, we could all decorate our homes with GroundHog decorations, and most of all every mall could have a GroundHog that kids could have their picture taken with.

This is an idea I think people could get behind. Well I will just have to try and get this pushed through Congress during my first 100 days as President.
