Safe City
Huntington Beach deserves to have the best Police, Fire & Marine Safety protection we can afford. A strong and fully funded public safety force will give us the tools we need to fight the unique issues we face in our community. I will work hard to make sure that our Public Safety Officers are given all the tools they need to fight DUI's, keep our beaches safe and protect all of the citizens from crime. I also support the Police efforts to maintain a great environment in the Downtown through the Entertainment & Alcohol Permit process.
Sound Finances
In these tough economic times it is critical for city to make sound budget decisions. On the Council I will work hard to negotiate fair deals with the labor unions. I will also work hard to expand the economic development efforts of the city to attact new businesses and retail establishments. Our aging infrastructure is also in need of care. Once on the Council I will work to make sure that we are fully funding the what is required to keep our streets and sewers in good repair!
Sustainable Growth & Development
Huntington Beach is known worldwide for its amazing surf & wetlands. In the coming years we will be changing how we think about development in our City as we shift from building on large open areas to smaller and more dense projects. We have to be looking at ways to link this kind of development with additional open space, transportation and sustainable building practices. We have to preserve open space now for the generations to come. We have to provide additional density where we can also provide transportation & walkable communities. I support new development & density and believe that it can provide an opportunity for positive growth in our city if we are not so crowded that we can't enjoy it! I will also work to support and develop programs that will encourage clean energy usage including solar and wind generation. We must make our codes and fees relect this as a top priority!
